Note: This article is an edited version of an article appearing in The Huffington Post on December 3, 2015, during the middle of the Paris Climate Talks. Sadly, virtually none of the suggestions or messaging have been incorporated in that or the 2016, 2017, 2018 or 2019 UN Climate Conferences, nor by The United States or any other government.

As so many around the world fight to save their own lungs and health from the ravages of Covid-19, it is important that we also focus on the potentially greater threat to “The Lungs of The Earth” (our Rainforests) and the health of our planet.

It is for this reason that we re-publish this message today, Earth Day 2020.

We, the undersigned, would like to suggest an extremely simple approach to deal with the existential threat facing life on this planet.

Instead of asking, or even begging, corporations and countries to please reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, we would like to agree with Pope Francis that the core issue is, indeed, a moral and ethical one.
